LONGEVITY TIPS
Do not operate an engine without a thermostat or with one that is stuck open. The engine will take longer to warm up, thus increasing frictional part wear, oil contamination, and exhaust pollution. Furthermore, gas mileage will be reduced. Part wear increases because cold oil does not lubricate as well as hot oil does. Oil contamination, exhaust pollution and decreased mileage occur because combustion is incomplete in cold engines and some fuel remains unburned. Make sure your thermostat is in good condition.
